any other feathered friends .. lots small bird keepers who have a few birds in the back yard may be in a bit of a panic now due to the flu scare . i read a post on the local freecycle site from a lady asking for help with  aviary frames to keep her ducks i think under cover . so i thought id best try n come up with some quick alternative ideas for those who just let the birds roam free . if you can get some pallets you can knock up a temp accomadation pen for them . you need maybe 7 and some long poles to go across the top .. stand the pallets on edge and then use 2x2 x 5ft posts  and bang them in between the pallet gap as if making a compost frame . tie the ends of each pallet to the next , until you have a pen .this can have an access gate from one pallet ( closest to the shed in my thinking .... use the green netting availabkle from focus etc it looks like a fine onion bag but in sheets 6 ft wide .. it is doubled up ,just put the spare posts over the pallets from one side to the other and stretch the sheet over and secure with battens and tacks . you need to install a piece over the small uncovered piece of the shed door to prevent access by any wild birds ...... there are also othe qwik ways like sticking the birds in a greenhouse , making sure they have adequate ventilation ... knock up a mesh screen door to go over where the house door shuts .. and cover the vents ...  all the rules require is that no wild birds have access to your flock ,,

see here for updates and information on protecting yourself and your flock

Do these rules apply to us up here in the wilds of Scotland?  Or is it just in the 'danger zones'?
