Title: Venturing Out
Post by: mrs bouquet on May 17, 2020, 12:45
Now that some of the restrictions have been lifted.   Have any of you actually been out.    I admit to being somewhat confused by the new do's and don'ts instructions.    I haven't, and actually feel quite nervous, so I am going to stay in for a while yet.
The Manager of one of our Village pubs died on Wednesday, he had been in hospital for about 4 weeks.   He was in his young 50s.    He was a bit over-weight and had high blood pressure.   A year ago he stopped smoking,  - 50 ciggies and day.!!   His poor wife is devastated.  She had her own job and very early on caught covid  He moved into a different bedroom, but alas it was not enough.      She is now bereaved and also riddled with guilt.
The thought of a Garden Centre trip out is nice,   BUT NOT NICE ENOUGH.     Take care,   Mrs Bouquet

No cafes open in the county at present, no public toilets open anywhere, the garden centres are asking people not to browse but to shop and go and only those with two entrances are open - one to go in and one to go out. Many local pubs are doing a click and collect system for meals and have organised systems for waiting outside. That's not going out - might as well cook your own. In other words - there's nowhere to go. But people seem to be going to beaches, local tourist villages and walking around - parking all over the place and upsetting the residents.

That's not to say that that the laddish local night life isn't having drinking sessions under the usual river bridges - they are and having fires as well as leaving their debris around.

met  my son at his allotment. We each took a flask and agreed on  sandwiches beforehand so we could share lunch.  A delightful hour sitting in the and nattering

Why don’t you just ignore the idiots, rather than becoming more unpleasant than them, Jezza ?  ::)

I'm a nurse and apart from going to work, I have no wish to venture anywhere   :(
My husband is doing most of our shopping as he is working from home but yesterday I called for some shopping on my way home from work and even with social distancing, felt very vulnerable.
I am in no rush to do anything at the moment apart from go to work, potter in my garden and go to my allotment when I can.
At the allotment my main concern is keeping my distance from one of the old boys who seems to think it's all bit over the top. ;)
Perhaps fencing off my plot is next step

I'm not sure if he knows what I do, but perhaps I need to remind him how dangerous I am to be near
From the other side of my fence

That is a sad story Mrs B  :(  What a horrible situation for the wife to be in.  It must be very unsettling so close to home for you as well.

It is essentially the same rules, but just with relaxations if you can go out safely.  I think it is people going back to work that are the ones it is aimed at.  You have to assess the risks to you personally and think carefully about when and how you do your venturing.  I know you have common sense in spades, so rely on that  :)

I'm not classed as vulnerable and have been at work the whole time, but I am not rushing to go anywhere.  Work, home, allotment and the Co-op at the end of the road have been it so far and I'm sticking with that.  This is a experiment to see if we can start to move out of lock down and keep the infection rate down.  I just don't fancy being one of the lab rats  ;)

"This is a experiment to see if we can start to move out of lock down and keep the infection rate down."

Spot on News.

We just cannot - must not - stop a way of life though perceived fear.

Yup, it's dangerous, but there has to be more than government stats, the BBC drones, local and family sadness, and a bit of plain obstinacy to make normal people see sense, and see to it the best way we can.

I just yearn to see more 'white van men' belting past our house, even though they're breaking the 30mph, and making a racket...

You should have seen me today Growster, bombing down the road to Malvern with Lake Shore Drive by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah blasting out at top volume. You would have been so proud ;)

Fabulous song, P1P!

I could listen to that all day, love the grin at the end!

You might have passed a building I designed at Braces Leigh  - lucky (un) you...;0)

No I’m not rushing any where, as I read elsewhere & posted on here somewhere
If you think with the relaxing of restrictions the virus has gone, you’re wrong it’s just there’s room in ICU for you.
Believe me the stories I’ve heard you don’t want to go there.
So we’re staying put as long as we can. I’ve put some plants up for sale on Facebook market place but I’ll put them out by the front door & a plastic bag for the money & they can put it through the letter box.
We are going for a walk today to the woods to meet up with our daughter whom we’ve only seen briefly at a great distance since this all started as she is still at work.
We’re seeing our son & family as it’s only 2 weeks since they moved out but when he goes back to work I don’t think we’ll be seeing them. All though that should be a while as he won’t go back until formula 1 starts back up.

I think he/she was making it up. I find it impossible to believe someone would allow someone else to deflate their bicycle tyre.

I certainly wouldn’t be that rude to one or our members unless it was tongue in the cheek  ::)

I have stayed in from the beginning and used the time to sort out my garden at last 4 years in the wiring. But I will have to go down the allotment soon I have a load of hedge cuttings that are now in the way

I'm going out for food shopping and to work on my allotment, and that's about it. I have had little to no face-to-face human contact for the best part of two months.

Definitely staying put for a while yet.   U3A has a Sunday Lunch Club and we meet once a month at different venues.   The organiser sent us all an email to gauge our feelings, we all said no. It has now been postponed until next year.
But given that I only read in bed, I have read 19 books in 11 weeks.   :D  The trouble is I have run out now.
Stay safe.   Mrs Bouquet

Mrs B, is your library doing ebooks?  You could look into that.  And there are lots of free books on Amazon, which you read with the Kindle App - you don't need a separate ebook reader.

It is excellent for some Yorkie,  but not me.  I go to sleep whilst reading     Can you imagine waking up laying on your open and switched on laptop.   But I just love proper books, the feel of the paper, the smell, and who else has read and enjoyed.     I expect the library will re-open soon.  Mrs B

Just bought five books for Mrs Growster on Ebay. There are some amazing bargains to be had!

One set I bought for her last year cost peanuts, and were all stamped 'Walsall Public Library', and presumably they were originally sold as redundant stock for just pennies!

But it was 'supply and demand', and the few quid I paid included postage, so everyone was happy!

I buy most of my books this way, usually in very good condition, especially the ex-library ones :)
Then when I've read them they usually get donated to one of Ashford's many charity shops, so they earn their keep

I think that some of the charity shops are doing the selling anyway, Mum - it makes sense doesn't it!

(Off topic, but have just seen what Quinn Estates are planning in Kennington, near The Croft! Blimey - yet another town arriving)!

My Hubby and I have decided to ignore every "expert", and go with what we know to be true.  Covid 19 is STILL rampant in this country. There is currently no vaccine.  There are enough idiots about to ensure it can be spread to most of the population.  Therefore we go nowhere other than home or the allotment, and that is the way it will stay until we either have a vaccine, or Covid19 is no more.  I'd love to pop to the shops, go for a coffee, have a little holiday - but we can do these things later.  You're a long time dead, and there's no cure for that, so the game isn't worth the candle.

Jaydig, I so agree with you. We're trying to move house but no way at the moment because of my OH's ill-health, so we're staying in total lock-down until we get more info. I'm not holding my breath until the Christmas decs come down!

Yesterday my Son-in-Law advised me to take the car for a drive, a) the battery and b) to move the position of the tyres.    I pootled along the A24, and was totally shocked at the amount of traffic and mad bikers.  It was like a race-track.   I was so pleased to complete my circuit (no stops) and just get back home.    Mrs Bouquet
