What would make me especially angry is when people put stuff into the skip that I have paid for!  >:(

As the old saying gos another mans junk is another mans Treasure, i once pulled one of those old people cranes (used to lift them in and out of bed) from a skip and i use it now as an engine crane for my Minis, the best story i read about skips was in one my one Mini magazine, where a building was clearing a warehouse, put on old mini cooper S in a skip and some boy asked if he could have it, got it for nowt, worth 1000's !! jammy ba**ard

Steven, as previously posted on this forum, removing articles from skips without permission is theft.

As I have just posted on another of your threads, we do not condone or encourage others to break the law here.

End of second reproof in 5 minutes.   :D

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I asked if I could have some wood from a skip and the builder asked me around the back where I got a sheet of decking which now sits by the shed and two wire meshed gates that make great onion drying frames.

99.9% of skip owners are happy for you to have it and often you get more than you expected.

As Yorkie says, it's theft to just take stuff from a skip without asking. Chap I knew had a door handle from the skip at work (DIY place)  that had been thrown out (one damaged in the pair). He was caught on CCTV and prosecuted. Lost his job as theft was gross misconduct - bye bye £60K a year job. Very expensive handle. :(

Once items are placed in a skip, the original owner has abandoned rights to it, ownership passes to whoever owns the skip. You are always taking property belonging to another - part of the definition of theft under the 1968 Theft Act.

It's just the same as taking stuff of a council tip - you're stealing from the council, (or whichever private company has the contract these days!).
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Sounds to me as if it might be safer to skip skip stuff!

(Unless we have gained permission first.... ;) In writing?)
