Can anyone help me identify this mantis tiller model?
« on: November 12, 2012, 18:01 »
As above - I'd like to identify the model of the mantis below - I just bought it today for £35. I cannot see any obvious model or serial numbers.

Also I noticed there are lots of attachments for their tillers are these universal and therefore likely to fit this one too?

They didn't seem to go by model number but rather by power.

Yours is very similar to this one minus the front lift bar:

Thanks for the help. I hadn't been on the American site and just did a bit more googling on it.  I think it's a little older than that one.  Very early 2000s and I've now got a manual for it too. Cheers!

you've got the serial number. I think I'd give Mantis a call and see if they can give you more details. If they think you're going to purchase some extra bit's and bobs for it, I'm sure they will....... ;)

Hi Paulj , I've got the same mantis tiller by the looks of your photo .It's a model 7801.

My children bought it last year off ebay also ,it does a really good job of turning over the ground once you get the technique right, walking backwards seems to get the tiller down deeper ,and be careful of hands and feet .

Make sure you get rid of most big weeds first or they just wrap themselves on  the axles between the tines ,and are a pain to keep on removing.

Cheers Carl

Thanks Growster and carlrmj.  I though it was a good price, I actually knocked the guy down from £45 to £35, which was a bit cheeky I thought, but then he was prepared to take that.  I'm looking at the accessories now as our garden needs a good aeration and our borders could with being cut much more neatly than the previous owner kept them and the attachment makes it look so easy.

Have you used yours on clayey soil at all?

My allotment has a patch that is clayey and I'm hoping the mantis might make lighter work of it.

My soil has quite a lot of clay in it ,the mantis made light work of turning it over.

I used in in Feb this year when the soil wasn't so wet ,otherwise it just gets clogged up

 Cheers Carl

I have a model 7801 and while this picture looks very similar, I thing from the label you have a different model.

The label shows the numbers 222 but part is obscured.  I think it is a model 7222, or SV4. You can download a user manual here
