Invincible white coloured flies.
« on: March 07, 2009, 17:23 »
Hi.

I think these flies live in the compost but I'm not sure. I overwintered some pepper plants from last year and these ba****d creatures seem to appear from no where and infest the plant. I am considering throwing these infected plants away as soapy water, jets of water, picking them off has failed. I initially thought they were aphids or 'white fly' but I don't think these are either.

Looking for some advice and a safe pesticide to be recommended.
Ta.

If you're sure they are not on leaves....Take plant out of pot carefully remove all the compost by washing in warm water and repot in new compost. I did this with some last winter and as long as you treat them gently no harm is done. :)

A picture would help, if you have access to a camera. They sound a bit like whitefly, which are actually moths. My Dad got rid of his by putting mothballs in the greenhouse.

I had indestructable whiteflys on some of mine, i found the only things that killed them was either neem oil ( 5ml to a litre of water ) or N,Limonene ( distilled orange oil ) at again 5ml in a litre of water
If there in/on the compost, sprinkle a bit of cinamon on the surface of the compost
