Has anybody heard/used Ulti-mite red mite treatment? What are people's views?
I visited a new (to me) farm shop on Saturday and it was on sale there. It was cheap in comparison to the red mite treatment I have been using. It was £19.50 for 5 litre of concentrate :unsure: I pay about £12 for 500ml (if memory serves me right) :blink:

Was this a farm supplies shop? Is it likely to be a professional / licensed use only product?
What is its active ingredient, do you know?

It is a farm supplies shop. Their chicken feed is nearly £5 a sack cheaper than I've been paying, so I will be returning! :lol:
OH looked at the ingredients, he believes the active ingredient was citrine (probably spelt that wrong) or similar. It didn't say anything on the bottle about being 'herbal' or an 'alternative' treatment. :wub:

I've been back to the farm shop and the composition of Ulti-mite is:
A blend of quarternary ammonium compounds, amphoteric and non-ionic surface active agents and water conditioners
OH thinks it's a detergent based product - if so, I'm thinking steer clear - what do you lovely people think? :unsure:

MULTI MITE IS FEED GRADE ALSO. We have tested all grades and this is by far the best grade available.
Feed Quality MULTI MITE Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a completely natural product made from single cell algae called Diatoms, it has so many applications, too many to list here - including against Red Spider Mite, animal Fleas & Bed Bugs!! Oak Tree Poultry have been keeping and breeding poultry for almost 30 years now and we use nothing other than this product for our own birds, with proper use ALL Poultry mite will disappear for good. We dust the walls and the bedding with Diatomaceous Earth each time we clean out the houses - job done! It can also be used with animal feed to prevent and kill internal parasites. Totally animal safe, can be applied directly to animals and no need to remove feed, water etc etc..

I'm not actually very lovely, but here's my take:
OH is right. It is a detergent/sanitizer. QAC do have some antibacterial properties as well as being detergents, so are useful for cleaning and sanitizing (often used in those squirty bottles used by staff in fast food shops).
The product clearly is not suitable for killing or deterring red mites.
If the food is so much cheaper, it might be worth comparing it's composition with a well known brand to be sure that you are getting a bargain (Hope you are :-).
