We added 3 young hybrid hens and a cockerel to our original 2 yr old flock of 4 hens. They have got on fine for several months but today the cockerel has had a real go at Betty at the light sussex, her comb is bleeding and ripped.

What is going on? And what can i do to repair/help her comb?
Liv.

Oh dear he has got a bit over enthusiastic when grabbing her to tread. When a comb gets pecked the blood just pumps out and looks far worse than it often is. To stem the flow you can put wound powder on it (if you don't have any then a sprinkling of cornflour will do). Do you have any purple spray so you can disguise the redness to prevent the others pecking away at her?
See how things go for a bit and if he continues to do this then you may have to seperate him for a bit to let her recover.
Staffies are softer than you think.
