Onion Sets
« on: September 23, 2009, 22:40 »
Hi, I am going to plant my onion sets in the next week, what kind of feeding do they require???  Any suggestion on different kind of onion sets available to plant at this time of year, the ones I am going to plant are Radar.

Radar are fine for autumn planting - if soil is well prepared they should not need feeding. If a bit light in nutrients you could always rake in a bit of growmore and maybe give a nitrogen feed in the spring to get them moving again after the winter.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I've just put Radar in a raised bed without soil. It was filled with spent grow bags and manure about three years ago and I've grown all sorts of stuff in it, even brassicas which are supposed to like good, hard soil

I did add some Growmore to it about three weeks ago prior to planting the sets, not much though, a little goes a long way   I think they'd be fine without anything to start with and then just feed them when they begin to bulb up in spring when I'd use a few manure pellets and water it in
