Title: Phone Line Fault
Post by: mumofstig on December 19, 2017, 12:40
but I still have broadband, how weird is that?

Sky's contract with BT? /Openreach? means they have 5 days to fix it. So odds on it won't get fixed before Christmas *sigh* just when there will be a lot of ringing around, and I don't really like using my mobile to chat  :(
Good job my txts are free, is all I can say  ::)

Many different types of phone faults of course, but quite surprisingly given the sometimes slightly flaky nature of copper-wire broadband, it can actually limp along on just one wire if one of the pair breaks.

Unfortunately of course, the phone doesn't work at all in such circumstances.

Hopefully BTOR will pull their fingers out - at least they can't blame severe weather for a multitude of urgent problems just now...

Have you tried plugging in another phone just in case it is your phone that is playing up?

Did all the checks Sky told me to do and they agreed fault on the line - not indoors.
My phone is actually telling me to check the phone line  :D

Can you download What’s app on your mobile, then you can ring for free, or if iPad or iPhone you can FaceTime, you can just do audio, so don’t need to be dolled up lol

We had an almost identical problem a few weeks ago, and it was a fault on the main cable from the house to the telegraph pole.   When the repair team arrived it was fixed in very short order.  The cable was about fifty years old, because it was installed shortly after we moved into our cottage.
The only problem I had was trying to contact Sky in the first place.  The house phone was dead, and the internet very intermittent, and I only have a basic pay as you go phone, so by the time I had waited on the line for someone to answer, and then arranged to have the problem dealt with, it had cost me just over £15.

you will need to tell them there is a problem with the broadband as well otherwise they will not look at that.
