yes i bought the dwarf's accidently i bunged a few in just to give them a go really so im not too worried if they arn't worth doing again. Though for the moment they look like they will be giving me beans before the climbers anyway so might be a nice stop gap.

Sorry, I live on my own and have 40 runners, 10 dwarf french (more next year), and two courgettes, though one would be plenty.  I freeze the extra.

40 ??! goodness don't you drown??  Eeek see it's post's like that which make me worry.

I do have a lot of spares, admittedly, but with apologies to your dad, 3 -4 plants would be no where near enough.

We are a family of four and I have always found around 15 - 20 plants to be plenty. Maybe 25 if you want plenty to freeze as well but I'm not too keen on them frozen. You want a bit of variety as well as quantity!

Before I got the plot I used to grow 48 plants at home. That was about right for us. Depends on your appetite!

There's only me to feed and I'm growing 16 runners and 12 of DDs purple climbing beans, and have just sown a few more runners direct at the front of the row to carry on the crop a bit later, if the weather stays mild, they do carry on for a long while :)
Like Ice, what i don't use fresh i freeze for the winter as i do like my beans :D
