I went to an Apple Day at a farm in Kent last week - chap there said cypermethrin was the best to use against codling moth, if you're in to spraying. Anybody know what sprays contain this?

Before recommending it, I think you might need to double check what it is licensed for.

Those listed products extracted by paintedlady are just sprays for ants, and in any event not for use on plants. 

I have searched the pesticides garden database and the only cypermethrin products seemingly listed there are licensed only for use on broccoli/calabrese, cabbage, cauliflower, ornamental garden plants, potato.

The chap at the apple day may be working on out of date information or non-amateur info.

commercially cyd-x can be used. its a bio-pesticide, not sure if its available to the general public. it contains a virus which makes the caterpillar throw up therfor staving it. what is the bark like on the tree, if it is old with flakes and cracks then the coding moth will hibernate in there

It was Brogdale. Quite interesting but they did try to rip you off a bit.
