How easy is it to take cuttings from shrubs?

I would like to take cuttings from my lilac, (syringa vulgaris) and ribes sansguineum, to place on the other side of my garden.

Is it possible to take cuts from all shrubs or is it easier when from certain ones.

many thanks
Marianne

It varies how easily they root and from what sort of cutting these two should root readily, the lilac might take for ages though, if you find a sucker that's a much faster job.
