Plants for the office
« on: May 23, 2013, 17:05 »
I have started a new job but there is one small flaw.  I have no natural light, also I have a fan on me all the time (it is needed believe me).
Will a spider plant survive here?
Also what else might do?  Would Christmas cacti or desert cacti?

A spider plant probably will survive this, but sadly some employers nowadays will not allow plants due to allergies, health and safety or other rules. Sad, but best to check you are allowed a plant.

We are allowed plants, those who have natural light grow them.  In some cases lots.

How can people be allowed to work in an office which has no natural light?   Even prisoners in jail get a window :nowink:

I worked in a prep room with no windows for years...

It was in a school so that's worse than a prison

I worked in an office in London once that had no natural light.  It was a bit morbid!

I couldn't work in a windowless room. It's just not normal.  Building regs shouldn't allow it.  Why do we have building regulations?  Someone remind me  :D

I work in a cupboard with no windows - it is horrid and the air can't circulate so I have a fan which is supposed to help but...

I have had this for 2 years but new head has said I can have a bigger room with windows in September - a room big enough that I can actually teach groups in as well  :D so I will actually be able to do my job! Haha

I had just assumed no plants would have survived with no daylight but interesting to see I was wrong

I do have windows but sadly the light from them doesn't reach me.

Aunt Sal that comment took me back to when I worked for a Pathologist and I had to go into his windowless "cut-up" room. I kept my eyes firmly upwards when speaking to him as he always had some blooming body part dangling on the end of his scalpel and would wave it about during our conversation  :nowink:

And a telly, and a choice of colour paint for the Walls.  ::)
I couldn't work in a windowless room it would like being in the cinema all day long. Mind you I can't grow indoor plants either, I am a serial over waterer.

Cacti is the one plant my son grows, he waits till it starts to turn brown then waters then leaves. And it's still not dead.
