Asparagus

You'd really be best to limit it to 4 roots. They may seem small now but once they're mature the roots are HUGE and really do need the space to do well for you. With space, the roots will supply you well for 20-25 years before they need replacing. My best tip is to mound up some damp sand and lay the crown of the root on the sand, then spread the rest of the roots all around. With the crown sitting on sand, you've got good drainage which ensures success. Also, be sure the root area is very well weeded as asparagus doesn't compete well.
