Chickens are in love with my red raincoat!

All this time I thought it was me that they loved!  

My chickens haven't laid for a couple of weeks, ever since I went on holiday and left the neighbour to collect their eggs.  I also noticed they weren't doing that polite little 'curtsey' they used to do when I approached them.

The days have been lovely and fine, so I've been spending plenty of time out in the garden with the girls, preparing the vege beds for planting.  But this evening it was a bit chilly when I went out to 'tuck them in' for the night, so I grabbed my red raincoat off its usual hook on the back door.

Suddenly there was a flurry when the girls saw me coming!  They all rushed up to me, and one by one they curtsied so I could give them a little pat!  Even Sylvia the bolshie Light Sussex who had never done it before, suddently wanted some attention!

For the last few months I've worn my red raincoat most days, especially first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening.  But in the recent warmer weather I haven't worn it.  And it looks like the girls have been missing it!  

I think I will wear my red raincoat in the garden for the next few days and see if it makes any difference to the chickens' egg-laying performance.  It looks like I might have to get myself a red T-shirt for summer!

Don't hens find roosters with large red combs irresistible and vice versa - they may think you're very sexy in your bright red coat!  Good job you haven't got a cockerel!
