So I received my 2 New Dawn bare rooted climbing roses on Thursday and planted them the same day in my planters and gave them a good watering in. My Question is, as newly planted roses, how often should I be watering them in these days bearing in mind they are in planters, not in the ground.

They're not going to need masses of water at this time of the year, given it's not too hot (exception: the first few days of this week!) and they're not in leaf, so not drawing water up through the roots.

Just make sure that the compost doesn't dry out.

Thanks Yorkie, I planted them in a 50/50 mix of freshly bought bags of multi purpose compost and John Innes number 3. So I'm guessing about once a week for now?

It might be worth keeping an eye on the watering until the middle of next week, because the first few days are going to be exceptionally warm.

|If you have a standard frequency for watering, you run the risk of under/overwatering depending on conditions, particularly outdoors.

As jaydig says, it's warm today and over the next few days. Assuming your planters have drainage holes, I'd err on the side of watering more frequently over the next couple of days, and then you will be able to reduce it again once it gets colder next weekend.  But always make sure you're not making the compost completely sodden.

OK, Thanks for the advice. They do have drainage holes, I tend to feel the top surface and it feels quite damp still but I will definitely give them some water over these hot days we're having.
