I pulled up the first carrots yesterday,and they are all shpes and sizes,nothing is the right shape as a carrot should be,bits sticking out in all directions.
Does the soil need anything?is it to wet?.
I dug the ground to 18" deep then raked the soil so it was nice and fine,removed stones,i put plenty of well rotted muck in to the soil earier in the year.
We shall be having them for tea with a nice pork chop,i bet they will taste much better than the shop ones,if the fresh smell of the carrots is any thing to go by they should be yummy :lol:Lillileaf

Well know advice is do not apply manure before growing carrots.

Carrots will do that in fresh manured ground.  The roots produce extra "roots" looking for this lovely nutrient.  Don't do anything to the ground next year except for digging it.  Just add bonemeal.  Next year they will be lovely and straight.

I thought planting 5 months after manuring was plenty of time before putting the carrot seeds in,i will learn from my mistake,i won't do it next year.
I have put carrot seeds in another part of the garden that has not had anything put in or on it,so i will see the results later in the year,they are a different type autumn king.
