Yeay...in your face chicken haters lol :)  It should be encouraged everywhere, councils should offer grants for people willing to grow their own fruit/veg, and keep chickens for eggs. Makes financial sense in these difficult times.
Many pets, a bloke and 2 kids....help!!!

I see she has an £85 coop from ebay. Good for her. There is absolutely no point in people paying over £300 for a fancy eglu or whatever.

12. --(1) Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary in any lease or tenancy or in any covenant, contract or undertaking relating to the use to be made of any land, it shall be lawful for the occupier of any land to keep, otherwise than by way of trade or business, hens or rabbits in any place on the land and to erect or place and maintain such buildings or structures on the land as are reasonably necessary for that purpose: Provided that nothing in this subsection shall authorise any hens or rabbits to be kept in such a place or in such a manner as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance or affect the operation of any enactment.

Basically what that means is that unless your lease specifically says otherwise you have a right to keep hens on your property.

Looking at that video clip, her hens seemed to be clean, healthy and well cared for.  And she pointed out she's also teaching her kids to be responsible and take care of animals too.

Looks to me like she would be an excellent, responsible tenant and a good neighbour.

there is nothing wrong with eglus they are very easy to clean and maintain, easier to get rid of redmite and should you decide to stop keeping chickens or expand they have a very high resale value. They are not the most expensive coops and will last a lot longer than some cheap ebay coops.

I thought it meant that a lease or covenant CANNOT prevent you keeping chickens and rabbits for personal consumption?
That what I'd been told, its  abit legalsie for me though.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

My £300 fancy eglu will last at least 30 years making it about £10 per year.  A couple of drops of washing up liquid once a month to keep it clean is all the cleaning cost, so £0.  Total £10 per year.

Her £85 ebay coop will probably fall apart in 3 years max. making it about £28 per year. Cleaning, disinfecting and mite control chemical will cost ££££s - no idea how much myself, never needed them, perhaps £30 is a low estimate.  Total £58 per year.

Each to their own :) but I prefer wood, it's easy and cheap to repair and as such will outlast any man made material.
