Green manure, do any of you use it, what do you think?
Dangerous with a trowel!

I used it last year for the 1st time, I reckon it will build up the organic matter  and nutrient level of the soil over a few years, helps keep the weeds down and protects the soil from erosion etc.

Also has the added bonus of being a lot lighter than horse muck and no chance of importing this Aminopyralid into your soil .

Green manure is definitely the way to go, with the risks John recently highlighted about Amylopr (see Richie Rich's blog above!) tainting manure supplies. Have phalacia (? spelling) , red clover and rye grass here. Will grow some in patches to attract insects, will plant the rye grass over winter to keep down weeds and enrich the soil come spring. I'm also using chicken manure pellets and making as much compost and leaf mould as I can.

PS Richie Rich, the Sub Artic Plenty tom plants are settled in nicely down the plot, thanks again!
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!

About chicken pellets - i have a few chickens so would it be ok to turf on their waste after I've harvested everything and let it rot down before the next season?

Not sure to be honest Mike it is quite strong I usually bung mine in the compost heap, however I did put a load on some rhubarb a few years ago and had a huge crop the year after.

Does anyone dig theirs in rather than toss it on the compost heap? The back of the pack I bought said to dig it into the soil, which I did, but I don't know how much help it was.

Green manure - will go plant a patch and give the bees a treat.
Sub artic toms - ours are out in the open so hope they do okay.
Chicken manure - was rather generous with this when I planted the potatoes. They aren't doing anywhere near as well as our neighbours patch - could it be that I've OD d them with chicken poo?
