Hi there

I've just dug over a new veg patch and found that there is quite a lot a clay so I'm thinking of trying some green manure, forage rye, to break the heavy soil up.  I was wondering if any one else has tried this as I'm slightly put off by the fact that it's quite difficult to dig in.  Also do I still dig in some compost and fish blood and bone?

Hi Beth - I'm on clay soil and used mustard last year which did seem to improve things somewhat - compost will help add structure to the soil, bfb is more to add nutrients IMHO

There are plenty of different types here Greenmanure I have ordered the winter mix and I am hoping it will be here today to plant tomorrow. Not sure of the best one for you but maybe a mix of different types would be a good choice.
