Title: Allotment & Grafting beginner
Post by: manchestman on September 11, 2022, 10:08
Hello to all. I have an informal sloping allotment in Huddersfield where I experiment on a small scale with the usual and also rarer crops, with my newest passion trying to graft different apple/pear grafts either onto rootstocks or existing fruit trees. 2021 was my first year and I achieved over 66% success rate (with some of the failures coming from my neighbour's beautiful kitten that loves company and likes nothing more than to follow me around the allotment. Now I'm in my 60's it's a great place to get out and clear my head and try to keep a little active.
Grafting is a great creative activy though getting hold of grafts I would like and rootstocks is challenging with gb-online (or Blackmoors for limited rootstocks) the only sites I know of.
I also love fruit (who doesn't?) and try to propagate different varieties of bush currants etc. Luckily I have a greenhouse for hiding away with Ken Bruce on wet and unwelcoming Huddersfield days.
I have been reading and following member's advice from this forum for the last few years and thought it was high time I joined and maybe contributed too.

Welcome to the forum  :)
Grafting has always been a mystery to me, but good luck with it...
