May I give it direct?

Sling them. It's the easiest way.

Brassicas are cool weather plants and they don't want - in fact they hate heat.

Sow again - somewhere cool.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'll second DD - sow again somewhere cool to get sturdy little seedlings.  The odd leggy seedling can be replanted deeper, but best to re-sow if they are all drawn.

A quick question, is it feasible to start brassicas indoors if you don't have a coldframe or greenhouse to transfer them too after germination, or is it best just to sow direct outdoors in this case?

Unless you have an unheated room with very good light (and this may still be a bit warm) or a sheltered area outside which can be protected from slugs and birds, I think it best to sow direct.
