Hi All,

We're new to the allotment  :D
Does anyone use Chicken Manure Pellets when planting potatoes?

Thanks

Yes.

Welcome!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I have a 20kg bag of Chicken Manure Pellets in my shed for the past 18 months not knowing what to use them on.

AT what rate & time do you put Chicken Manure on your spuds?
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

Depends on if you're growing them in bags/containers or straight in the earth

1-2 or 7-8 good handfuls (as above) when planting.
Same again as I earth up.  A good sprinkling of manure pellets looks good to me. :)

Nothing scientific in this house or lottie! ;) :D

It's not necessarily too early - it's just too cold/wet for it to be a practical proposition at the moment in most parts of the UK (if you live in Spain it might be a different story - adding your location to your forum profile would avoid that particular doubt!)

In the allotment-no I probably won't plant for another 2 weeks.  However- I kept some Lady chistl potatoes from last year ( thinking that last year's poor crop would make seed expensive)and they have chitted very well. So I planted them in small pots and transferred them into large pots and have a doz. plants about 12" high. Just used last year's soil and added a good handful of chicken pellets. Nothing ventured- nothing gained as they say.

True, Ivor. You just need to be aware of what sort of weather is expected in your own area for the next month. If lots of rain, then your potatoes will quickly rot in soggy soil unless you've decided to plant them in raised hills. There are just so many variables involved that you have to give it your best guess when to plant. These days it's impossible to say: plant potatoes on X day.
