seed tapes???
« on: January 27, 2011, 21:19 »
HI, Folks is there any pros and cons in planting with seed tape, just saw packs of runner bean & pea seeds in local garden centre, and being a newbie not 100% sure of the benifits or drawbacks , any advice would be welcolme .
when it comes to age we are all on the same boat.......But some of us  have been on board that that little bit longer

In my opinion they are not very cost effectivve as they are a lot more expensive than normal seeds so I normally just stick to normal seeds, however i have never actually used them so cant talk from experience.

Seed tapes for carrots etc., I've seen & can half understand the concept.

But peas and beans?

No way.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I tried them for lettuce not great. Didn't germinate well - I feel the tapes are expensive - have gone back to seed.

I tried carrots once - it would have been great if they had all germinated, as they are pre-spaced, but of course they didn't do left a very raggedy row. I would go back to sowing with sand and using stump rooted varieties that don't need so much thinning.
Peas & beans are dead easy to sow either direct or transplanted.

More expensive, and not any need with peas and beans IMO. Was given some beetroot seed tape last year though and cant really say anythin negative about the way it performed. Straight rows, perfectly spaced, but are we really that short of time???
