I was reading up on frostbite in chickens earlier as got a bad feeling one of mine might have caught a bit on the tips (after seeing a similar item on this forum although I am sure there was a bit of black on them when they started growing so hopefully might not be) and it said that chickens with large combs cant sleep with their heads under their wings and this could be why they get frostbite cos they go to bed with a wet comb and cant keep it warm.  Is this true?

whenever I have checked on my girls sleeping, whether they have large combs or not, they haven't had their heads tucked under their wings.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Interesting to note those comments the information I saw was obviously a bit inaccurate.  The only time I remember one of them doing it was outside one day when we first got them and she wasnt very well and she fluffed up and slept for most of the day, so I figured it was just done at night when they slept.  I will have to creep in and see one night.  Thanks guys and gals.

Mine sometimes do it when having their afternoon perch and no difference between the girls with big combs and the younger girls - they all manage it  :)
