Slug and Snail deterrent.

Did anybody watch Gardeners World on friday. They were talking to a woman who had Englands biggest collection of Hostas. She says the slug

and snail queation comes up regularly. What she does is this. Boil up 2 bulbs (not cloves the whole thing) in 2 pints of water. Boil for about 4

minutes then squash them up. Strain the liquid then make it back up to 2 pints. Put it in a bottle or jar. Use just 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water

and use a watering can or spray at the end of the day when it will dry on the leaves. She swears by it and says it reduces the need for pellets by up to 80%. Worth a try.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

I will definitely give that a try! I wonder if it makes your garden stink of garlic?

Saw the clip on BBC GW website. It would be any hosta. Most older varieties were thin leaved which slugs and snails love. Newer varieties are bred for thicker leaves which they dislike.

What bulbs? Garlic?
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Thanks for explaining, Ruby Red  :D  I spent an age on eBay & Google last night looking for a hosta with bulbs but they were all 'bare rooted plants'  :?  Gave up in the end. Garlic is easy - thanks  :D
