Antibiotics.
« on: November 29, 2008, 17:29 »
Evening All.

I picked a replacement blackstar up today :D while I was there the dealer also gave me some antibiotics. (She did tell me what they were but I forget, started with f or th I think -not baytril though). I did ask her about the eggs but she didn't seem to think I needed a withdrawal period.

I really dont fancy growing another arm or an eye in the back of my head, so should I bin the eggs while they're on the antibiotics ?

Its a clear liquid, dosage 2ml/1ltre if thats any help.

Why do  they need antibiotics  :?:

What instructions did you get  :?:

Only vets can prescribe antibiotics  :!:

Egg withdrawal will probably be for at leasat 2 weeks after the course is finished.

EDIT: I miss typed the withdrawal period, should be 2 weeks     Thanks for pointing it out to me Bodger

I know its a little on the naughty side    I really can't justify a vets bill and as the birds came from there originally....

I've still got one sneezing chicken - it also has a foamy eye now and then (not all the time and no funny smell) the dealer was worried about it turning into  / being mycoplasma.

I was going to question the 22weeks after I picked myself up off the floor - hoped it was just a typo.

She suggested a 5 day course putting 2ml in 1ltr of drinking water. Which at the rate my lot seem to be drinking at the moment would only be around 5ml consumption for the 3 birds in week hardly seems enough to do anything.

Is it worth me asking her exactly what it is? or should I just bin any eggs for the next 3 weeks.

I would ask what it is and then you can make an informed decision.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

If it is mycoplasma - which seems likely - it may take more that 5 days of treatment.  Mycoplasma is never really cleared from a flock and can always return at times of stress.  So good treatment now is essential !
