Saved seed from purple sensation allium

What do i do now?

Sow straight away?

Freeze?

How long to flower?

Anyone got any experience?

Sow straight away in trays.

That is what Dad did, and then planted out the small seedlings in the spring -- took a couple of years to flowering but was worth it  :D

I let mine self-seed and they do just fine. I simply move them where I want, provided they haven't burrowed themselves 2 ft into the ground  >:( as some do.

Left to their own devices the seeds stay on the seedheads until the Autumn and seedlings appear around the plant in early Spring.

It is about 3 years before they produce seedheads.

Put the seed into a paper bag and leave it to dry out over winter in an airing cupboard or warm place.

Sow around the start of January, and once the seedlings are a good few inches high, they can be potted up, until they have made a bulb under the soil. Then plant them out into their final positions, nice and deep.

Alliums grow seed heads in their second and further years, so in 2010, you should have seed heads.
