newbie trying to do everything right
« on: May 31, 2009, 01:30 »
Hiyas!!
I'm new at this chicken thing. I want to make sure that I feed my chicks the right food. I haver grower chick food right now. They are almost 4 weeks old. They are Buff Orpingtons. I also add some parakeet grit to their food. (Can't remember where I saw that advice.) At what point do I switch food? I thought I read somewhere that the oyster shell is not good. I figured u all have been thru all this already and might have the best advice. Thanks a bunch!

When they get to around 6 weeks then you can put them on growers pellets, thenat around 12 weeks start to change them onto layers. My adults get oyster shell served seperately and grit that they pick up from the ground as they are free ranging. About an hour before bed they also get a handfull of mixed corn plus also a few meal worms etc as treats. Hope this helps.
Staffies are softer than you think.

With your buffs particulary keep on growers until around 20 weeks if I were you, quality buffs will take time to mature.
