Crushed eggshells or not?
« on: July 11, 2008, 14:07 »
What is the advice on giving new layers crushed eggshells?  I have heard so many conflicting opinions I am not sure what to think now!  I usually bake them and use them on the garden to stop slugs.  My chickens are still laying some soft shell eggs, though it is getting better, I wondered if the added calcium would be good?

I find baking and crushing egg sells for them is a bit of a faff.  I make sure they have a supply of flaked oyster shell.  They snack on that whenever they want to.
