As promised here's a pic of the Senshyu onions.  They're about a foot high and nearly an inch at the base now. They didn't all survive so I  filled in with spring sown ones.  Firstly they got lots of rain, then 2mths of frosts, and now the ground is as dry as a bone and I haven't watered them at all. Hardy little b*****s!!

Many thanks for the picture HilaryG. I have just measured mine and they are about a foot in height, but the width of them is about a finger width( I am female so my fingers are only small!!) I have loosened the soil around as it was solid and dry. I will keep my fingers crossed then that they will be edible later in the year.  :)

My Senshyu are doing great, a good foot high with lovely deep green leaves ad the stems as thick as my thumbs.
I cant see anyone else growing them on my site and have had a few nice comments on them. Which is nice )
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I also put in some autumn red onion sets which didn't do nearly as well. What's the secret for good red onions?!
my red ones are struggling as well. they are still very juvenile!! the shensyu ones have started bulbing already
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...
