I have covered them with a fleece do they need any more than this or do they even need this ??
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

I've found strawbs to be as hardy as old boots, almost rhubarb-like in resistence to cold.

Mind you, we've just had a couple of frosts so using fleece to help them harden off over the next few days shouldn't be a problem, I just wouldn't leave it on for very long.

I wouldn't leave it on at all.

Strawberries do not need molly-coddling!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You don't take cuttings from strawberries, you propagate them from runners, which is no doubt what your neighbour is referring to. A lot should have rooted into the soil - take those.
