Watermelons

I have 4 watermelons plants and they are producing fruit, but as soon as the fruit gets to the size of a large pebble they turn black and fall off :( Anyone know anything about watermelons???  Spoke to the Spanish neighbour and they did not know what to do or why this is happening

I'll never be able to grow a water melon in this climate. However, if I had to hazard a guess I'd suggest that perhaps the flowere were not pollenated.
Ah well ! There is always next year !

How big did they grow before they dropped off?

Sorry large pebble, it would be a good idea if you could help them along with pollination with a make up brush

i had a similar thing with my courgetts and all i did was pick a male flower and help the process along a bit , the things you have to do , trying to explain to my neighbours was the fun part as my greek isnt good and their english is non existant.
