i agree with john on this mantis thingy i cant fault it,I used to look at em through one eye but once you have a blast on one there brilliant,
and yes karl damp soil is much better not too damp or too dry but just damp

one question on the mantis,I got mine 2nd hand so it came with the tines it came with and no user manual.now ive been told you can by a set of ridger tines(cant find any on the net) and also ive been told all you do is switch the tines around.can anyone clear this one up.
feed the soil not the plants
organicish

I don't have a proper 'big boy' rotovator, because I've only got a small veg patch in my garden, approx 25m2. I wouldn't be without my Mantis. I double dig with mine. Mash the top 8-10" then move it & mash another 8-10" deep & then refill it, works like a dream.  :tongue2:
Shaun, PM me your address & I'll post you a copy of the manual

I see Alfie's posting you a copy of the manual but in the meantime. What a star  :!:

You can reverse the normal tines. One way is deep the other shallow (I get it mixed up and have to swap them often!)

I've got the ridger tines as well - they're great for quickly digging a trench for potatoes and for earthing up.

Specification of the 2 stroke here ..... Spec

User manual here .... Manual

Planter attachment is here .... Planter

Furrower attachment here ... Furrower

The only down side is the extra bits are very expensive

But looking at the standard tines, I wonder if you could dill out the rivets & replace them with HT allen bolts & nylock nuts or tap the retaining spigot a suitable size, say M8 and that would give you the option of removing the outer set of tines ?

Shaun ... Guess i've just saved the postage  :tongue2:

cheers alfie or is it graham much appreciated that  :?
why couldnt i find those docs ?.
take no notice of munty he wouldnt turn his nose up at one if one came his way,I think they are an essential bit of kit makes gardening much easier.ive been using mine on the inlaws flower beds that had a lot of couch grass its all gone now and the soil is greatly improved.
and like richy says they are so light so taking it the plot is not a bit chore.
