Flymo DM Belt
« on: March 25, 2007, 20:39 »
My Flymo DM has shredded up it's second belt in the last two weeks!

The first belt to snap was not a vee belt but something someone bodged on there, the first new belt I put on came from the car shop and it wore down until it started slipping after a couple of hours use. The second new belt was bought from my local garden machinery repair shop, who assured me that an A20 belt was the one. It fitted better than the one from the car shop but after a couple of hours this one has worn and started to shred and split. The bottom pulley is a bit pitted with rust. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers.

Try cleaning your bottom pulley up, and make sure your belts not too tight.
Took me a lot of fiddling about to get the right tension on the clutch cable, at least I think it's right  :)
Muntjacs about he will probably know better than me tho'

for the right tensioning i always use the test of putting the thing in drive without the engine running and depressing the belt so that it goes down by a good half inch ....... being as its a " little machine " shaun or qwiz may know more
still alive /............

I went for the "if it don't turn when your not squeezing the clutch but does when you do" it's right approach :D

Sounds to me like the pulleys are rough or out of alignment. Is the jokey pulley spinning.

look at the profile of the belt and the profile of the pulley wheels and make sure they match up
feed the soil not the plants

stoopid question, are you able to post pics? they say a thousand words, very often the belt hasn't been put around pulleys the right way. its difficult to explain, a picture will let me know straight away. having a rusty or pitted pulley will most certainly shred a belt in double quick time, are you getting any belt slip? do you smaell burning rubber when its being used? :?:

Having just got hold of a Flymo DM i'm currently looking for a good supplier of replacement belts. I noticed the link you posted here is no longer available, so just wondering if anyone has an alternative supplier.

Thanks in advance.
