Title: What is the little bump?
Post by: betty on October 14, 2007, 06:45
Hello,  I do get on here daily to read up on things, but I only post questions.LOL Well here is my latest one: I noticed my chickens have a little bump right above their tail feathers, and they peck it and rub their heads on it.  It seems like they are senting themselves or something?
What are they doing this for? Even the peeps have it and they do it to.  I'm sure it's normal, but now I'm curious.

All chickens have them. Think of it as an oil bottle. When the birds preen themselves, they dip into it and waterproof and spruce themselves up with its contents
