Hey im only at the thinking stage

Dont know what chickens yet but probably about 6 or 7.

The kennel is about 8 ft by 6 ft and it will have a run. There is a nice little verander on the kennel for them to sit and put their feet up as well. We would like them just for eggs and pets if im honest. Well probably more pets actually knowing me. What would you recomend Babe?

jo 8 x 6 sounds lovely, you'd need about 1 squ metre per hen for a run, nest boxes and perches to sleep on.

types is a personal preference, i go for cuties, whereas some go for productivity and munty will just say 'welsummers'

Well id would be with you and go for cuties and give them all names. OH will go for productivity. The kennel is quite tall as well so could get some lovely perches and boxes in it. It has a huge door on the back that opens with heavy bolts on it, and we thought maybe block up the dog hole at the front so they would be safe at night. Is it best to lock them in at night even with an enclosed run? I realise this might be a daft question

not daft at all, always lock them in at dusk, the aftermath of a fox attack is really not pretty.

so any breed in particular you like?

do you really think polish are the best, see we are a bit biased, especially now elvis is in the hall of fame and has his portrait up on the poultry pages, no slumbing it in the forum for the king

maybe he's practising on the ducks, so that he doesnt embarass himself by getting it wrong with the girlies.

could be a very smart cock

Hi Jo;Neil, your kennel sounds fantastic! so much room! If you post a few pics you'll get loads of advice! The only thing about such a large area is too make sure you have enough chooks to cuddle up and keep warm plus ensure ventilation is above the perchs to make sure there aren't any draft.Chooks cope well with the cold but not drafts.
And breeds? You will get so many differing opinions we all have our favourites -guess what Babe likes!!!
