Space use after spuds ... toms or french beans?
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:48 »
Hello fellow garden dwellers!

I was wondering weather it would be wise to plant my tomatoes in the space left by my 1st earlies when they have been lifted or if I should follow the crop rotation cycle and plant french beans?

I did french beans last year. (sowed in paper pots and got them ready)
I would advise against toms just because they are from the same family and you run the risk of transferring disease leftover from the potato plants.

I plan on putting my leeks in after the FE come up. I've only got a small garden plot so I want to make as much use of space as possible.

It's leeks for me after the earlies and I'll probably put some salad crops in as well.

Thanks for the advice. It seems leeks are the winner so   ill try that.

yup! Prakash is spot on - toms and pots are same family, so best not to follow on with toms. I put some carrots in there, and French beans, courgettes (just getting going in the greenhouse). I haven't done it, but perhaps corn would work too?

small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required
