Grow Your Own / Re: Strawberries vs slugs strategy

This year I've been picking them a bit under ripe but have noticed woodlice in some of the eaten strawberries, do they eat them or just go into the holes the slug create? If they eat them, what deterrents have you used as I've not really seen this before?

A bit of a mash up as had a salad in the fridge for when I got home from work, but then discovered OH had wolfed what I had planned to go with it with his tea.

I ended up with toast and felt the need for pud, so I also had Ö

a salted caramel ice cream  :)

It is also worth knowing that the site owner has a vast library of articles and information.

https://www.allotment-garden.org/articles-advice/

Plus a whole section on allotments.

https://www.allotment-garden.org/allotment-information/

He will probably be too polite to say, but it is a bit rude to direct people to an alternative site from a forum he runs without mentioning that  ;)

Hi Snowdrops.
Don`t rush this as it`s not the best time of the year to start. Digging will be a problem as the hot summer weather will turn your clods to `bricks`.
I`ve just started the raised bed method and if you look at some of
Charles Dowding`s youtube videos he has a super one or two on how to start and no need to rid the weeds first. Here`s one: 0LH6-w57SlwBuying compost is prohibitively expensive-try and find a supply of horse manure now and it should be usable for next spring. Good luck

Hi Sands, think you might have meant to answer the original poster whom was colls 10  :)

I saved a blackbird today that had got stuck in my pea netting. Hopefully it pays me back by eating the slugs. I saw some starlings eating them in my garden so perhaps it had a word  :)
