Tomatoes
« on: July 02, 2010, 09:34 »
How are everyone's Tomatoes doing? I'm not sure if mine are on track or not being up north. But they seem happy enough and this is my first attempt direct from seeds. I'm told there are much better varieties than 'moneymaker',but I dont care,I'm happy to know I can germinate and grow on Tomatoes...maybe a different variety next year :D

I can see some red ones there.  Mine are still green - loads of them and a good size though.  Don't forget to feed them though, as I'm sure you are :D.  Mine are Venessa, which is a good one.

I also have fruit showing on mine but they are not red (or yellow) yet.  I have grown different varieties this year - mostly cherry ones because that is what I prefer.

we were a bit late getting ours into the greenhouse but we have plenty of fruit forming on Moneymaker, Craigella and Shirley plus Tumbling Tom and and Tumbler...nothing red yet though. I'll be upping the frequency of feeding a little I think.

There's nothing wrong with your toms, they look super, but we keep forgetting that everything is a bit late this year, mine are the same.  We can always make green tomato chutney. ::)

they will catch up  :)

Although mine were all planted at the same time, some have green fruit and some have only flowers. Each plant does its own thing  :D

We are only at the beginning of July and being in Rhondda you're fairly well south, and it's warmth that's important with toms, (not blisteringly hot), so you should have a reasonable harvest and like I said 'green tomato chutney'.   It goes with masses of different things, cheese, meats, pies etc.

Me and the OH shared our one ripe sungold last night!

There are a couple more turning orangey but most are still green and pretty small.  Said tomato was in one of the growbags in our fully double glazed porch so has had quite a cosseted life  ;)

Sounds like yours are well on track and you will soon have more toms than you know what to do with.

I've had three ripe Gartenperle so far (yum) and there's one Red Alert just turning red but not quite ready. Got loads of green ones and flowers, but that's all that's turned ripe so far.
