Fleece protection for Brassicas
« on: May 20, 2010, 08:07 »
Hi,

Rather than buying debris netting I'm considering using my leftover fleece and some blue water piping to build cloches over my PSB and Kale. Will this be ok or are they likely to cook under there? I imagine it will get quite humid!

One issue I have with fleece is that water seems to pool on top of it, has anyone else experienced this?

Nope.

It's photo-degradable polythene, generally used on  maize/sweetcorn. The maize will grow straight through it and it'll be broken down by the end of the season.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I used enviromesh last year and it was great but fleece would work I'm sure - the water does soak through eventually.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Hail stones don't go through it.

Ivah.. thats not a fleece. thats a snow catcher. That must be one strong fleece. I have cheap quality fleece which breaks up when pressed with thumb.
I assume there are two types of fleece (or atleast i have) one in which water doesnt go through (waxy coated stuff) and the other is written on it saying that it will let the water through and disperse the sun.
