Can anyone help to figue out what is wrong with my greenhouse tomatoes.

I purchased my greenhouse toms as small plants from the garden centre as i was a bit late sowing the seeds. They are 'ailsa craig' variety.  I have kept them well watered and well fed.

The tomatoes look lovely but when you cut into them they all have a sort of 'caseing' enclosing the seeds that looks like a stawberry.  I'm sure it must be edible but we really don't fancy eating them as they don't look very nice at all.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me.  It's the first time i've grown them in the greenhouse.

The only advice I can give is to take a sample back to the garden centre.   They may know the cause, and stick their hand in the till.  .  .  . Cheers,    Tony.

According to the Kansas State University Research and Extension unit, tomato fruit often develop a tough white core in the center under stress conditions.

During stressful weather--usually aggravated by excessive fertilization--this central core becomes tough and turns greenish white. The walls also may become pale and corky.

You can't control the weather, but keep your tomato fertilization within the recommended amounts, and try to avoid extremes in soil moisture.
