Do broody hens still lay their own eggs, have got a maran which has been broody for 3/4 weeks, thought she laid an egg a couple of days ago, but gone back to being broody again and sitting on any eggs, now have a light sussex being broody?

They sometimes lay the first two days after going broody but generally as a rule they stop :)
For every week a hen sits it will take that time again for her to start laying, so if your maran has been broody for 3 weeks it could be another 3 before she starts laying again :(
