muscovy duck nest problem
« on: April 09, 2010, 17:34 »
i have a muscovy duck who has just started to lay, she has chosen an old chicken house, the problem is i need to use this house for some new chickens, and i was going to build her a new house within the run( so i can keep the ducklings contained if i need to), do you think she will let me move her nest, she goes in there once a day and lays an egg about 6 in their t the moment, she has shown no signs of sitting on them, any advice would be great.

In all honesty don't think you have much chance of moving her although I don't have any experience with muscovies. Ducks are generally very stubborn about where they nest and once settled hard to move. Most of the books say that you are more likely to put them off being broody than successfully move them although I failed on both counts when I triedto break or move my broody duck last year. She was fine to move once she had her ducklings though.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
