Black Maran Cockerel help!!!
« on: September 13, 2009, 20:43 »
How do you rehome a cock???? Everyone wants my welsummer hens!! But how do you rehome a black maran cock??? Or 2 buff orpington cocks???? Poor things....I don't want to see them face the oven, particularly my black maran - he is such a picture, soooo handsome and friendly!!!! He loves a good cuddle and playfight!!!! Anyhow - any ideas or links as to how a I may rehome my favourite cock before he starts waking up the neighbour who works nights!!! He's aout 8 weeks old now and does not deserve the oven!!!
This is my first lot of baby chicks after my black rock went broody - so I treated her (cos she's a lovely natured hen) to a few eggs to sit on!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

Advertise him free to a good home where you can but you need to be aware that it is very hard to find a good home for boys. Good luck.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Oooooh!  I sure hope someone has an answer for you, as I think I have a cockrel chick!  If you find a way, please post it!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

If he is free to a good home then advertise him on the swop shop/recycle section in chicken chat like I did - somebody may be interested. Don't forget to put your location and maybe a photo  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

Lizzy, why do you thin yours is a boy? She looks very much like a girl to me - the cuckoo is sexed by the colouring (different stripes on boys and girls) - yours looks like mine and she lays brill  :D
Take a look at this - far more white on cockerels:-

just had another look at her and she is a proper cuckoo maran hen - so you can look forward to darkish brown shelled eggs - just a word of warning Brenda Lee my cuckoo maran goes broody very very easily (although she did make a good mum to my banties that she hatched)  :D

yes I am certain, the male carries an extra barring gene which makes them appear ligther in colour. You have a pretty girlie cuckoo maran so stop worrying (until she keeps going broody like my Brenda does then you get no eggs for a couple of weeks  :(). xx
