Title: Where to buy 3" Pots for Pricking Out Veg
Post by: wbmkk on April 04, 2019, 18:00
I have cauliflower, kale, cabbage and Swiss chard seeds all popping their little heads through the soil, so all will need pricking out in a few days time.

I need some 3" pots (I assume these will be big enough) and was wondering where is the best place to buy

the seeds are in a heated propagator at present but will be moved to an unheated greenhouse when in their new pots

thank you

I like 9cm square pots, which seem to make better use of greenhouse bench space - I get mine from Oakland gardens https://www.oaklandgardens.co.uk/square-plant-pots-14100-p.asp

the larger quantity packs, cost relatively little more than the smaller quantities, they sell on ebay as well if you prefer to buy there.

I like 9cm square pots too, I got mine 10 for a £1 from Wilkos I think (Not 100% on that though as I've had mine for 3 years now and there has been alcohol in the interim  ;)

Do any local garden centres have a tub to help yourself to their used plant pots, lots of ours do

Get them off the heat ASAP or they'll be ruined.
They don't need heat, just a bit of frost protection in the very early stages.
3" pots, square or round will be fine.

Are you a fan of yogurt? I buy Longley Farm yogurts locally and they are the perfect size and re-use the plastic.

Are the pots from Oakland the stiff plastic pots or the very thin and flexible one? I just bought some off Amazon that were reported to be ones that could be used over and over again and they were the thin ones that tend to split. Easy way to tell is if you place a full can of drink on one empty pot would it collapse or stand firm?

The last decent lot I bought was well over ten years ago and they are still going fine and get used multiple time each season but I keep using them all up.
Cheers
