The chaps are working here in Caton digging up part of the roads and pavements to install a hyperfast broadband network with 1,000Mbps. They've done the school at the end of the little estate where I live, worked up from there, and are now on the road just outside our house. We've got the connection box fitted on a wall inside with a ducting cable connecting it across our path to the bottom of our wall which they will drill through and connect their end. Anyone else got this happening?

I think it's fairly local to your neck of the woods, Goosey, plus East Anglia.

Openreach are all over our village at the moment, but nobody seems to know why - except for a chum, who's van got clobbered by one of their vans while he was standing next to it! The wing mirror was bashed to pieces, flew up in the air and landed on his head, so he finished up in A and E!

As for fibre optics, it might be next century down here, we don't even get a half-decent mobile signal either...

We've got used to roads being closed over here while Wight Fibre dig up pavements and install whatever.  The pavement outside our house was only dug up and renewed last year and now it looks a real mess again.  We keep getting a flyer in with the post telling us what 'benefits' we could have by signing up with them but we're quite happy with what we've already got.

DER!  Today they're at our gate which has been barricaded off so no trips out in the car, as if we were planning on going out anyway. TBH, they can take their time as one particularly nice young chap has a sleeveless yellow jacket on over a rather nice brown naked torso.

What does ' blow the cables' mean please?

I've visted Indian/Chinese restaurants once in a while, but this sounds rather problematic, and I suggest you stand well back...;0)

They use an air compressor to blow the fibre optic cable along the length of the piping (which was installed by burying it below the pavements and access ways in the gardens to the Toby box on the house) then they check that it is working. Nothing to do with foreign cuisines but I do fancy a good curry sometime soon.

Mrs Growster is planning a curry tomorrow, Goosey, and I've bought some pilau rice to save delving into the Uncle Ben's box (have you seen that they're banning the 'Uncle' bit as it's not PC)! Paaaah!

Any'ow, her curries are to die for, and the ready-cooked chicken I bought from a local supermarket (Jempsons), is up and ready for dissection, and various herbs and spices are awaiting her expertise, as I often do...
