Post by: John on August 07, 2021, 13:35
We’ve finally got the last of the second early potatoes up. These last were two new-to-me varieties, British Queen and Epicure. Yields in terms of volume / weight are similar but the British Queen have more small tubers in the mix than the Epicure.

According to a newspaper article recently, there is going to be a bit of a shortage of potatoes this year.  Other countries have been so badly hit by adverse weather, they're looking to by British crops.  Lucky you that you chose to plant a few extra this year.  Might have been good timing.

Not one I've tried but looks reasonable from the AHDB database  (https://varieties.ahdb.org.uk/varieties/view/Kingsman)

With all that was going on with the pandemic I thought it prudent to really go for it this year. If things ever get really tough, potatoes are one to go for heavily.
Because we get a lot of blight here, second earlies are a good balance. Yield is higher than first earlies but more likely to be up before the blight arrives.
