Apple Tree.

Hi all i have a small apple tree on my plot seems healthy. But for one thing . A green/grey powdery like growth on the branches . Can someone
tell me what it is and how to treat it .

is it on leaves as well or just the branches?

On the branches looks like the powdery stuff the grows on stone.

ok it could be mildew . if it was on the leaves id say silver leaf this affects branches as well ,you can test it by cutting a 1/2 inch branch and look for a ring of rot or discolour in the centre . also false silver leaf is a possibility but there is no branch centre colouring this is a watering problem . put down a real good mulch of manure in spring and water weekly ., for real silver leaf where as i said the branch has a colouring in its centre you need to cut back all branches to 6 inches below any colouring and then put arbrex on the cut ends .if you have toadstools or fungi on the trunk dig it up and burn the tree ,dont put a replacement in the same area

thats lichen mate as gobs suggests .id have the tree out and replant some new ones .couple years and your gonna be fine .. plant in the open as well not in an enclosed area the sun shines mainly on the lichen side

now would be a good time to start a new orchard

Hi Munty so there is no cure for it . Not sure how old the tree is looks
like a drawf on grafted onto main root stock .

as for harm to the tree ,not sure if its doing any but it wont do no harm to brush it off .its got to be growing in the tree bark itself im thinking .. but i reckon it wont come to much in the future .you could try digging it up and planting it right out in the open

. or start again .. not sure exactly what to suggest for sure lol.. but id dump it

Yes it fruits ok . Plenty of flowers both years i have had the plot .
