Lucky you, MoS.  I have a resident frog, who was waiting by the greenhouse door to be let in when the weather turned cold in the winter. I think he's vacated the premises for the time being now though, but hopefully your toad will settle in and make himself useful by eating all the pests that you don't want on your plants.

I'm holding back on the outdoor toms for another week or two, just in case.

Virtually everything that was in my greenhouse is now in the garden as I got fed up with constantly moving the pots around. I have even put the seedling tomato and pepper plants into their spaces in the greenhouse border. Funnily enough everything took off like a rocket once in more open ground. I swear the sweetcorn has grown a couple of inches in a few days and the French beans that looked as if they were struggling are now looking very promising. The runner beans are making their way up the sticks and the tiny fennel seedlings are settling in nicely.  I do have, just in case though, some scaffold netting that I can drape over the posts that are in place to make a 'tent' should there be a frost forecast.

I hate all housework - it seems to be so pointless, although I'd dislike living in a dirty, unkempt house. I have noticed, however, that as long as nobody touches a surface thereby leaving fingermarks or a trail on it, dust doesn't look any worse after two weeks than it does after two days. Spray the shower cubicle when you exit with a certain Mr M shower spray and it only needs a thorough clean now and then. I'm not really lazy, I can just think of more important and interesting things to do.

Hurrah! Happy to confirm that either the rat/slug deterrent activities have worked OR the Plot 13 Asparagus was just a bit lazy and is now properly woken up - spears as thick as my fingers are popping up from all 5 crowns - Yay!!!!
They only went in last year so I wont be taking a harvest yet, but its just so great to see them!

Went to the plot on Monday but forgot to post about it! Went there to earth up the potatoes - Pentland Javelin, Charlotte and Kestrel all in there now and popping up well. Sowed another few rows of root veg (Turnips, some chitted Parsnips, Carrots and some rows of spring onions between to deter pests! Had a good weed around the beds, planted out some tough little Tagetes 'Tangerine Gem' I think they are - full marigold scent but the slugs tend to avoid them, so I'm popping them in between crops. Finally, as the council had dropped off another load of quite nice wood chippings (not too musty) I took the opportunity to patch up some of the paths that were looking a bit tatty.
OH! Best news of all - THE ASPARAGUS IS SHOWING! Yay!!!
